Welcome to English 150H food blogging

Welcome to the wonderful world of food blogging. I'm really looking forward to reading your posts this semester, and to learn from and be entertained by you. I don't watch much television (I don't have time) but when I tune in it's usually to Food network (I tell my husband that I'm doing academic research for this class but he doesn't buy it). My favorite Food Network celebrity is Emeril Lagasse. I rarely attempt to duplicate his creations but I find him so entertaining (how many people do you know that cook accompanied by a live band?). I also love Rachel Ray; I love how she dishes up gourmet fare in less than 30 minutes. I often try her recipes, using my family as guinea pigs. They aren't very adventuresome so they are a tough crowd to please. Last, but by no means the least, I watch Iron Chef America; I find it amazing that the chefs can create such exotic and delicious dishes out of the most bizarre ingredients (I'm not sure that I believe that the unveiling of the secret ingredient is a surprise. How do the chefs know to bring squid ink or squash blossoms--both ingredients on last Sunday's challenge--if they don't have some prior knowledge of what they plan to cook?). Who could have anticipated that cooking would become a source of entertainment? I hope as we wade through this semester that we discover or simply realize the impact that what we eat exerts on our lives. I'm new to the wonderful world of blogging so please feel free to make suggestions, comments, challenges, and whatever! Have fun and bon appetite!

I love the food network as well. One of my favorite shows is where they show how all the things are made. The other day I saw one on how jerky was made and I wanted to lick the TV screen!

Confession time, I also watch the food Network. I also enjoy the Iron Chef America show but not as much as the international one where they have the people speaking in 3 different languages but mostly Japanese. I think it is funny to see the people go crazy and see the creations that some people make. I don't think I would ever eat many of these things for the pure fact that there is so little of it and when I eat, I EAT!!! I will say though that the American edition is better for the reason that the food actually looks great. All I wish is for a little less grease.

Unfortunately I don't think I have ever watched a food channel in my life which is strange for someone who considers eating a delightful hobby. I am crazy about food. I am not picky and can just about stomach anything and I would love to sample some of those recipes from Emeril Lagasse.
P.S. This blogging stuff is quite fun.

For a few years my brother was a Food Network junkie. Bobby Flay and "Summer Unwrapped" became household conversation fodder, and we still watch it occasionally. My sole complaint is that Alton Brown is a little too quirky for me, but I guess it sells.

I'm one of those people who when I get really bored I'll watch like 3 hours of those annoying food infomercials. You know, those ones where they are trying to sell some amazing device that magically makes food amazing. I find those to be really entertaining. I don't have the food channel but I'm sure if I did have it, honestly, I don't think I would watch it just because I never turn my TV on.

AH-HA!! I am new to this blogging thing, and after two days I finally found you and figured out how to post a comment. I am feeling very proud right now. Anyway, in response to your blog, I just don't understand how those cooking shows work. Yes they are entertaining, but when I try, (TRY is the key word here), to cook it is NOT entertaining at all. Aside from the small disaster that usually occurs in my kitchen, its just not that fun for me. I guess those people on the Food network have major skill.

I've watched the food network too!! By this I mean that I thoroughly enjoy it but that I don't watch tv, because quite frankly, who has the time? But I like food, a lot :) and I love to cook :)

Well I must confess that the only exposure I've had to the food network is a show that my Dad enjoys where this guy goes to countries around the world trying various cuisines of the area. Most often he is eating the weirdest things imaginable. Scorpions, bull genitals, rat, and his response is always the same, very positive. Crazy! I love cooking shows though, they make me so hungry.

The food channel is so entertaining, but I have to be careful because it makes me quite hungry. My favorite show might be "the Ace of cakes". I think it would be awesome to make sweet edible works of art.

I've actually never seen Iron Chef but I've definitely heard about it! In fact, the apartment building I live in (which is all girls) are going to compete against an all boys building in a reenactment of the Iron Chef show. We're going to have a secret ingredient and everything! I'm so excited so we'll see how it turns out. :)

My grandmother who is full blooded Italian LOVES Rachel Ray and always tries all of her recipes (I think she bought her cookbook at the bookstore) but she always says that she is not so good at the Italian food. I always wonder how people get their own cooking shows?? Maybe its just the way your name sounds and if it sells...Rachel Ray does have a nice flow to it.

I have always been a huge fan of the food network. Luckily so is my mom. I love when she experiments with new recipes she sees. your family should appreciate it.

When I was little, I would watch the food channels alot simply because there was nothing else on that I was allowed to watch. I learned somethings, but mostly I thought that it all just looked gross, and took way to long to make. I am a lot more appreiciative of good food now though.
